Sure, Analog:Shift is a business built around the love of watches — mostly mechanical watches. But, in essence, it’s our love for timepieces and timekeeping in general that are the common themes throughout the items we procure. And that includes the love of clocks in general: pocket watches, travel clocks, and more.
After all, in the couple hundred years before the First World War, personal timekeeping was all about the pocket watch, and before that, it was larger clocks that were front and center, horologically. We still believe a good clock — such as a classic travel model from the 1920s or 1930s — has a place in the watch lover’s collection.
This particular timepiece will appeal to the “VROOM VROOM!” set: Dating to the 1960s, it’s a Heuer Master-Time timer meant for mounting to a dashboard — preferably in a very, very fast automobile. Sleek and well designed, it’ll look just as handsome sitting on a desk in a well appointed office, or on a bookshelf.
Housed in a 2.5” x 2.5” square stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal, an unsigned winding crown at 12 o’clock, and a notched, bidirectional bezel, it features a matte black tritium dial with luminous dash and cardinal ‘Arabic’ indices, an outer white minute/seconds track, and a ‘sword’ handset.
Powered by a hand-wound 8-day movement, this utilitarian (yet strikingly handsome) dashboard timer is an example of the type of function-forward design that’s becoming scarcer and scarcer as the years go on.
And even if you don’t intend to mount this handsome timepiece to the dashboard of your modern car, it’s guaranteed to look fantastic sitting on the desk in your office, or on a bookshelf.
But we'd love to see the former...
